The economy in most developed countries has shifted from industrial production to services since the beginning of the 21st century. Research originating as Service Science, Management, Engineering and Design (SSMED) circa 2005 has now developed in a new body of knowledge. Within the Systems Sciences community, systems thinking roots are strong in the development of Service Systems Science.
